Kevin Brown

This is my 23rd year in education and my 17+ year working with  Academically and Intellectually Gifted Programs.  I am originally from North Carolina having studied History and Education Policy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Also in Chapel Hill, I earned my Master's in Teaching with a focus on Social Sciences.  I enjoy traveling internationally and exploring new cultures and environmental landscapes.

My “why” for teaching is to help students develop a personalized thirst for learning in school and in life and thus becoming well-rounded leaders who employ a plethora of critical thinking strategies.  I am an advocate for “all” uniquely talented students.  It is my goal to support teachers’ efforts to nurture and differentiate for all students whether based on interest, learning style, or depths of knowledge.

Wake County has many programs for students that are based on specific grade levels, so please email if you have questions and I will try to advise you through these programs and processes.  We can also discuss ways to guide your student's enrichment/nurturing and that you can assist Bugg ES in the process.

AIG WCPSS

While AIG nominations for 4th and 5th grade students are accepted year round, there are two testing windows during each school year.  Email Mr. Brown with any nomination request using the email posted in the top left corner.  Typical deadlines for these windows are mid-late September and late December/ early January for traditional calendar schools.  Once referred an AIG evaluation can be a semester-long process.  Parents will be contacted when the school based committee does not recommend moving a nomination to the referral stage.  Here are some 2022-2025 documents related to AIG:  WCPSS Program PlanStudent Portfolio Tool

~FALL NOMINATIONS INCLUDING TESTING are due:  SEPT 16, 2024~   (Simple parent email)

Some students can be evaluated without the need for additional testing.  But for those benifiting from a new COGAT/ IOWA,  fall testing will take place starting in Mid October.  Tests will be giving in the mornings and likely Monday-Wednesday (days Mr. Brown is on campus.)  The COGAT takes 3 days for 30 minutes each day.    The IOWA  is one day ELA and one day Math (both 30 minutes).  Parents will be sent thier own copy of tests results as soon as they are returned to Bugg.  This is generally towards the end of November for fall and March for Spring.
