Ideas Brainstorming for Friday
  • Give kudos to everyone for great few weeks so far, taking WUHS into a new era; how we can make the school experience better for everyone
  • Kudos for the patience getting up and rolling for the first weeks
  • Reminder to read & follow emails, do assignments (pluses/wishes, Dropbox, self evaluations, etc.)
  • 16 students x 5 days x 2 hours = 160 hours/week
  • Share overall vision for communication with audience -- 21st century - via apps, web, posters, etc
  • Discuss ways to maximize effectiveness of each announcement -- ex. triple length of report, but only aired once in 3 days; reminders; web site calendar; IC message, etc.
  • Discuss project ideas
    • 5 staff interviews per student, for web site "get to know your teacher", etc.
    • live broadcasts from all events where it is possible, especially in building events
    • covering all official student sponsored events
  • Soliciting reports from all 1000 students/staff; and partial reports; ex. write up / summary, photos, videos, etc. -- take advantage of fact that pretty much everyone has one or two or three devices capable of recording video and/or photos and/or audio
  • Create a movie trailer project
  • Create a music video lip sync project
  • Set up trip to a TV station and/or another district's program
  • Watch a handful of award winning network news reports, choose most effective ones, analyze, imitate them
  • Tutorial with iMovie, perhaps use Nelson room for iTV thingy
  • Discuss video techniques -- leading space, rule of 1/3s, backgrounds, etc
  • Discuss award winning script that could be written for "helping others", generic, national audience
  • Discuss splitting class into multiple teams to do multiple tasks such as: daily bulletin, Thursday show, web specials, etc.
  • "Free Day" day to get help working on choice project and/or small group discussion/work
  • Create calendar of all upcoming events that should be covered for "video yearbook" and/or "this year in history" and/or video web magazine
  • Learn the structure of an effective news report
  • Discuss before/after school project opportunities
  • Develop "flipped classroom" lessons to maximize classtime in collaboration
  • Change up the location of the class; mostly only need iPads most days; where else would be useful
  • Discuss special roles, such as the ones that prepare the script from the announcements, make sure everything is covered, etc.
  • Measuring effectiveness of individual announcement with survey and/or some sort of feedback, contest, quiz, etc.
  • Doing student interviews at lunch on fun topics, opinion topics, etc.  Dig out an old HS Newspaper and see what they covered.
  • Brainstorm interesting news:  what is going on with JV baseball field, iPad upgrades, course offerings, bully prevention / be nice, academic extracurricular, what programs do the students want, student council, district budget, college plans for seniors, reviews, etc.
  • Use of apps, twitter, tumblr, facebook, etc. etc.
