Elementary Summer Reading List

The following list contains some noteworthy books that have been published in recent years. This list should provide a starting point for summer reading but hopefully will lead to further explorations.  Note the authors of the titles on this list, as many of them have published additional high quality children’s literature

Research has shown that children are motivated to read when they have a choice of which books to read. (Scholastic 2010 Kids and Family Reading Report)  Include frequent trips to the library as part of your summer plans, and have available plenty of interesting books at home.  Choosing a book for a family read-aloud is a wonderful way to share and discuss good books.
