Policies

Borrowing Library Materials: 
  • All students will have a library class once per week. 
  • All materials circulate for a two week period. 
  • Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 may borrow 1 book at a time. 
  • Students in Grade 2-3 may borrow up to 2 books at a time.
  • Students in Grades 4-5 may borrow up to 3 books at a time.
  • Additional items may be made for school projects. 
  • Students are expected to bring library materials back to the library at the end of the borrowing period
  • If students need more time, most materials may be renewed.
  • Materials should be returned in the same condition in which they left.
  • There are no fines for overdue books, but.... students will receive a friendly reminder from the library if a book is overdue. 
  • If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, students will be charged a replacement fee or asked to provide a replacement copy (preferred.) 
  • Students with overdue books will have borrowing privileges suspended until books are returned or paid for.

Behavior in the library:
  • Classes in the library will follow the rules of the librarian.
  • When the librarian is teaching, students are expected to be respectful, just like in their classrooms.
  • There will be no running, jumping, hiding, yelling, or other shenanigans in the library.
  • Students visiting the library while classes are in session must not disrupt the class.

Visiting the library outside of class:

  • Students may come to the library any time during the school day with a teacher's permission.
  • Students will follow the rules listed above under "Behavior." If a student cannot follow the rules, s/he will be sent back to class. 
  • If the librarian isn't available, students may check out a book on their own using the paper sign out sheet, 
  • Students may come to the library before school or during lunch so long as the library is open.
