2nd Grade

The 2nd grade library program builds on students' prior knowledge - learning proper book manners, taking good care of books, finding a "just right" book, and listening to diverse and entertaining stories with the librarian. We will delve into the Dewey Decimal System and learn more about how the books are organized and accessed in the library. 2nd graders will be introduced to the online library catalog and taught how to search for books on their own. In addition, we will also discuss simple reference sources such as the encyclopedia.
Students are encouraged to choose age appropriate books that appeal to them. Many second graders will choose non-fiction or easy chapter books, but some still prefer picture books - and that's more than OK!

2nd grade students may borrow up to two books at a time and should return their books each week. Books may be renewed as needed. If you return one book, but still have another out, you may borrow only one book that week. Students with excessive overdue books will have borrowing privileges suspended until books are returned or paid for. If there are ever any questions about overdue books, please email colleen_flannery@wayland.ma.k12.ma.us
