Wauseon Schools will be in normal session on Monday, August 21, 2017. This is the day of the solar eclipse that will travel through most of the United States. There will be a variety of activities in our four schools related to the event to include internet based viewing and indirect viewing. Each administrator has a plan for the activities in their buildings. They have also approved some short term direct viewing experiences with all necessary eye safety precautions in place on Monday.

Our district will dismiss our students at the regular times on Monday. Parents of walking/bike riding students are encouraged to remind their children not to look directly at the late phases of the eclipse on the way home. It is not possible to safely walk or ride a bike wearing the ISO 12312-2 approved eye protection.

Across the country, schools are handling the eclipse with a variety of responses ranging from all-school outdoor viewing events to cancellation of schools. We care about the safety of our students and therefore, there has been and there will continue to be discussions related to safe viewing throughout the day on Monday. If you have any questions or concerns about your student, please contact your child’s school for specifics about the day’s activities.
