As of now, it appears that the forcasted storm is holding off until later this afternoon, and we are pleased to get in this day of school.  I will let you know as soon as possible about any impact for tomorrow morning.  As has been the case for a few of these storms, it’s the overnight accumulation that makes for a challenging call the next day.  At this point, our school year will end on Friday, June 22

I have rescheduled my Superintendent’s Coffee for tomorrow, March 22, at 9:00 am and 7:00 pm in room 301 of the Phillips Administration Buiding.    Due to last week’s storm, the walkout that our students had organized to commemorate the tragedy that occurred on Parkland, Florida, was postponed.  Our high school students have rescheduled the walkout for this morning at 10:00 and I will be there with our high school leadership team.   The Middle School students are still organizing what they would like to do.  The Watertown Police Department will be closing Columbia Road for traffic, and if any parents or community members are planning to show your support, we ask that you remain at one of the ends of Columbia, as this is a walkout for students.   The School Department, along with the Watertown Police and Fire Departments, will be holding a School Safety Forum on April 4 if you would like more information on how we keep our students safe in Watertown.

The School Department and the School Committee have considered and voted on fee increases for the Extended Day Program, a restructured fee schedule for athletics, and reinforced the need for an extracurricular activity fee at its March 19 meeting.  All of these proposals were made to strengthen our existing programs and to ensure that we can provide the best opportunities for our students.  Additionally, they discussed changes to transportation due to the changes in school start times, and have tabled that discussion referring the agenda item back to the Budget and Finance Committee which meets tonight at 6:30.  If you are looking for more information, all of the supporting documents for these agenda items can be found on the WPS Website under the School Committee top tab.
