*Personality Types

Before reading on, let's take a minute and talk about why we talk about education when we talk about your future.  It's because education really does pay!  Take a look at the pic on the right (click it to make it larger).  It shows how, on average, each time you increase your educational level you are increasing your earning potential!  It also shows unemployment by educational level and you guessed it, the more education you have the more likely you are to find a job!

Few people at your age know for sure what they want to be when they grow up; there is still so many things to learn about the world and yourself!  However, it is a good time to start considering some of your options.  Below is a link to a simple interest inventory that can show you what your personality type is right now.  Jobs can be categorized into these same types and people who choose jobs that match their personality types tend to enjoy those jobs more than if they do not.

This does not mean that you are limited to one group of jobs, in fact, your personality type is likely to change between now and next year even.  But, it is the perfect time to look into some of these jobs that you have not considered before.  Perhaps the perfect job is out there just waiting for you to discover it!  Mr. Gunnell and Mrs. Powell will complete an Interest Inventory with all of the 7th graders during the year.  You can take a Personality Type Inventory yourself by clicking below.

At this website you will complete a 15 question career profile test.  Click on the green check for one career/activity you are interested in and click on the red X for the career/activity you are least interested in.

After you take the Inventory it will ask you what level of education you hope to attain; It is okay to check more than one.  It will also ask a few more questions.  When it gets to your level of schooling now, select "Primary School".

Record the following for later use:
  • What is your top Personality Type?
  • What is your 6 letter personality type?
  • What are 3-5 suggested occupations you are interested in?

Now here's the fun part.  Go to this website: mynextmove.org

Where it says "Search Careers with key words" type in one of the jobs you are interested in.  Time to reseach:

  • What Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities you will need to do this job?
  • What personality(s) match(es) this job?  Are those the same as yours?
  • What kind of Education do you need?
  • What is the Job Outlook?
  • How much money can you expect to make?

Now research 2-3 more jobs you are interested in.  Tell a parent, teacher, or counselor what you learned as you did this activity.

Good Luck in your self-discovery and your path to your own success!
