Mrs. S. Gubler's Keyboarding
Welcome to our class website. This website will be used as a web portal, a communication tool, and as a tool to enhance learning inside and outside of the classroom. Please explore this site freely and know that all websites/videos linked to this site have been pre-approved for students and families.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Keyboarding!  Our classroom is digital, which means  paperless! We are very excited about this and look forward to the new school year. Your student will be learning how to “Keyboard” which is  a survival skill in our world today.  Research shows that keyboarding skills are directly related to good readers and good spellers and it is considered a base to composition in writing. During this school year, we are going to be learning proper technique to “Keyboarding” which is critical to becoming a fast typist, a better reader and speller.  We desire all students to become successful at Keyboarding to enable them to learn this  critical  literacy skill that carries over into all of the other subject areas.

Today, efficient keyboard and computer operation is a necessary and critical skill for the majority of occupations. Keyboarding is an expected tool for communication throughout one's life. With the widespread use of computers in schools and homes, keyboarding instruction has moved to the elementary grades. Younger children are becoming fluent computer users. It is important for them to learn proper keyboarding techniques early so they do not develop bad habits that are very hard to break.

Research is showing that Keyboarding provides a necessary skill for career preparation in which ninety-six percent of all jobs require effective keyboarding skills. With this said, the Keyboarding activities in the classroom will be carefully created and presented, with students accessing very specific sites to learn Keyboarding.  The Keyboarding site we will use in our classroom is Keyboarding Online. Each student will have a Username and Password set up by the school for them to access their account on this site. Students can access this site from anywhere they have access to the Internet.

Students will be expected to practice Keyboarding while at home a minimum of 15 minutes a day.  If your student does not have access to a computer with Internet, then we suggest that they try and go to the public library to have access. This finger placement practice will greatly enhance their technique as well as their speed and accuracy.

While in class No “surfing” will be permitted. As you know, you and your student signed the school district’s “ Acceptable Use Policy” when your student enrolled at H.I.S. You can find this at  http://www4.washk12.org/district/district_policy/3000/3700_accept_use_policy.htm). If your student chooses to make a bad choice and not follow this District Wide Policy, then measures will be taken where students accounts are locked and privileges are revoked.  When this happens, it not only affects them in Keyboarding, but it also affects them in all of their other classes as well.  Please encourage your student to follow all of the rules while here at school to ensure a great experience.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. If your child needs special accommodations for reasons such as with reading or other physical limitations, please contact me so that we can find a way to best accommodate your student.

My goal is your student’s success!

Best regards,
