Mathematics, Track and Field

Hi, I have been teaching for 25 years. I have enjoyed teaching and being with the students. I started my education here in Hurricane going to school in kindergarten all the way to the twelfth grade, then went to Utah State, running on a cross country/track scholarship. I am married and have 6 children, three boys and three girls: Amber, Tyler, Cory, Jordan, Lacey and Ashlie. My oldest is married; her husband is in his first year of a residency in Albuquerque, NM. My teaching career started at Dixie Middle school, where I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. There just happen to be an opening for teaching science and math, halfway through the school year. It was fortunate for me that I had just finished my secondary education certificate at Southern Utah State College (SUSC), as it was called way back then. I had a great time learning to be a teacher. One of my favorite things was to organize the yearly Turkey  Trot , where I would race the students around an obstacle course that I had set up covering a couple of miles. The school would give away pies and turkeys to the winners of the race.

After spending three and a half years at Dixie Middle, I moved over to Hurricane Middle School to teach as a Physical Educator and Math teacher. The years went fast as I was able to work with these young bright students. I was asked to be the track coach at the high school and to help out with the football program. We have been lucky enough to enjoy several years of success and track state championships here in the state of Utah. While teaching here I went back to school to get my Master's Degree in Secondary Education. I received the degree in 1997. I was asked to be the Athletic Director at Hurricane High school in 2001. It was a busy time in my life. Keeping up with all the extracurricular activities at the high school took all my spare time. I went back to full time teaching after eight years as the athletic director. In 2014 I finished my licensure for Administration.

I love our new school and my new room where I can look out my classroom window to see our beautiful track and football facilities. I am looking forward to having a successful year teaching Secondary Math III along with Fitness for Life.
