Mr. Ranck's 8th Grade Science

In 8th grade science, students can expect to explore two major topics. Force & Motion is a unit I cover typically in the fall and again in the spring. This unit usually takes nine weeks. We will explore subjects such as speed, acceleration, and velocity. As a class we will engage in multiple labs and experiments dealing with speed. Many of these labs can be investigated outdoors.
I typically cover the Populations & Ecosystems in the winter months. This unit usually takes nine weeks as well. Throughout these investigations we will look at topics such as population, ecoscenarios, adaptations, natural selection, and genetics. As a class we will construct our own mini ecosystems and make observations throughout the term. We will also look at genetic variations within a population.
Earth Explorations is an elective course I teach. It is a nine week course. Students can expect to learn about plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, and the impact we as humans have on the Earth.
