What does it mean to be an American?
What is the American experience?
How are these ideals depicted in literature?
How do historical events affect literature and vice versa?
These are only some of the questions we will explore throughout our two trimesters together. Throughout American history,
authors have voiced their American experience and views through the eyes and voices of their literary characters. American Studies is designed to connect the literary masterpieces and movements that define America with historical events, issues, and ideals, and explore the cause and effect relationship between the two disciplines.
