Home : Title II - Part A

Title II, Part A is a program funded through federal grants to state educational agencies, local educational agencies, state agencies for higher education and eligible partnerships.
The purpose of Title II, Part A is to increase the academic achievement of all students by helping schools and districts improve teacher and principal quality and ensure that all teachers are highly qualified.  Through the program, state and local educational agencies receive funds to help improve the skills of teachers and the quality of instruction in core academic subjects.
In exchange, agencies that receive funds are held accountable to the public for improvements in academic achievement.  Title II, Part A provides these agencies with flexibility to use funds to address challenges to teacher quality.  Funds can be used for improved preparation and qualifications of new teachers, recruitment and hiring, induction, professional development, and teacher retention.
