2015 Season Preview

Coming off an impressive 2014 campaign in which the Warhawks were one of the last four teams left standing at the ACCC State Tournament, Jefferson Davis Community College is looking to build on the momentum it generated during their second half run from a season ago.

The 2015 Warhawks will be anchored by an infield core that returns three of four starters from a year ago. Third baseman John-Mark Cosby, shortstop Brandon Davis, and first baseman Dake Rivers will be relied on to lead the charge heading into the upcoming season.

In the outfield, Jefferson Davis will be led by returning sophomores Brandon Goins and Greg Ciangiotto. Each of these players started numerous games in 2014 and will again look to carry the load and lead a talented group of freshmen outfielders from the Warhawks 2014 recruiting class.

Behind the plate, Jefferson Davis will be very strong with a trio of catchers that will each see their fair share of innings. Leading the way will be sophomore Craig Headley. Headley will serve as both a vocal leader as well as a strong offensive weapon for the Warhawks. His veteran leadership will go a long way in grooming his freshmen counterparts Austin Armstrong and Chad Simmons.

The 2015 Warhawks pitching staff looks to be vastly improved with a strong group of returning sophomores as well as an extremely capable group of freshmen that will be expected to immediately contribute to the staff. Also new to the pitching staff is sophomore and recent University of New Orleans signee Riley Hodge. Hodge, a transfer from Tallahassee Community College, will be a very proficient starter and will join fellow sophomores Garrett Davis, Dylan Johnson, Nick Helton, and Taylor Baynes in the rotation.

All things considered, the 2015 outlook for the Warhawks is very bright. With many returning sophomores from a 2014 team that finished in the top five of many major categories, the Jefferson Davis offense should again be very strong. Furthermore, the Warhawks have bolstered their pitching depth with a strong group of freshmen. With the added depth, the pitching staff should be vastly improved from a season ago. Jefferson Davis opens the 2015 season at home against Central Alabama Community College on January 31.
