Field Technology

One central objective for the Destination Einstein initiative is to create a field experience that is vibrant and exciting.  This requires, among other things, technology that streamlines play.  To do that, Walton Robotics' created a set of field technology that consists of three main elements:  O!FMS (Open Field Management System), Real Time Scoring and an Audience presentation mechanism.

O!FMS (Open Field Management System)
Using a foundation of open source code, Chief Engineer and DE Field Technical Advisor Alex Bassett coded a fully-operational Field Management System which is used to manage six robots at a time in full scrimmages.  Advantages over the current FMS Lite technology include sounds at the beginning of each phase of play and a separate timing module which displays clocks for the playing teams to view. O!FMS has now been used in over 100 matches with more than 40 different robots.

Real-Time Scrimmage Scoring
Rishi Raj, Assistant to the Executive Director and Assistant Field Technical Advisor, created a scoring app which runs on android phones and tablets.  Scoring is easily accomplishing using a user-friendly interface, and data is transferred wirelessly to a common folder where it is displayed with our Audience presentation software.  Future development includes integration with OFMS and the audience presentation application (discussed below).

O!A (Open Audience)
An Open Audience application presents real-time scoring data using a full daylight 5000 lumen projector from donated by Kimberly Clark.
