Climate change is exacerbating long-standing pressures on the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable peoples around the world with devastating effects. This project sharpens the understanding of social and cultural aspects of environmental change, and pieces together insights from a range of inter-disciplinary scholars to imagine a planetary social movement strong enough to bring about the necessary change towards sustainable economic, social, and political practices. The project focuses on thinking outside all the boxes – across the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities; between academics and the many other constituencies with stakes in the problem; and with the realization that making progress in any aspect of this crisis entails attention to the others. The project is led by Priya Kurian, Debashish Munshi, John Foran, and Kum-Kum Bhavnani and involves, among other things, organising a symposium and putting together a book.
