Welcome to Music!

Aloha e kakou!
My name Dian Athena Hermes. I have been teaching Music at Wai`alae for 11 years! Before Wai`alae I taught Choral Music at St. Andrew's Priory and before that I lived on the Big Island teaching Elementary Music for 5 years. I have my Bachelor of Music Degree in K-12 Music Education from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

I am a mom. My son, Kai Makana, is a 4th grader at Kahala Elementary School. He loves sports and performing and is the President of Student Council. He also performs with Diamond Head THeater's Shooting Stars.

In my spare time, I run a baking business making custom cakes and cookies as well as sew quilts and custom gifts. I also direct the Wai`alae Performing Arts Company, which offers after school classes and activities to students in and out of the Wai`alae Community and puts on a Spring musical each year.

My hobbies are dancing, anything from Hula to tap and Broadway jazz. I like to sew, bake, travel, paint, go to the beach, and perform in musicals. I have been in MANY musicals over the years, but most recently in Sister Act and Mary Poppins at Diamond Head Theater.

I look forward to getting to know more about you this school year! Check out your grade level page for more information on what we are doing this year!

Aloha pumehana,
Ms. Hermes
