Welcome to Music!
Aloha e kakou!
My name Dian Athena Hermes. I have been teaching Music at Wai‘alae for 13 years! Before Wai‘alae I taught Choral Music at St. Andrew's Priory and before that I lived on Hawai‘i Island teaching Elementary Music for 5 years. I have my Bachelor of Music Degree in K-12 Music Education from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
I am a mom. My son, Kai Makana, is a 6th grader at St. Louis School. He loves reading, football and musical theater. He performs with Diamond Head Theater's Shooting Stars.
In my spare time, I enjoy baking cakes and cookies as well as sewing quilts and custom gifts. I also direct the Wai‘alae Performing Arts Company, which offers after school classes and activities to students in and out of the Wai‘alae Community and puts on a Spring musical each year.
One of my hobbies is dancing. I dance hula with Halau Hi‘iakainamakalehua, but also love Tap and Broadway Jazz. I also like to sew, bake, travel, paint, go to the beach, and perform in musicals.
I look forward to getting to know more about you this school year! Check out your grade level page for more information on what we are doing this year!
Aloha me ke pumehana,
