We have stopped accept applications (as of midnight, April 20th, 2019) and notify teachers the week of April 29, 2019.

Our GenCyber camp will train secondary school teachers in the principles of good cybersecurity practices and the science behind those practices so that they may both teach their students effective practices as well as motivate these students to study cybersecurity in further detail as they move into their chosen disciplines in colleges and universities.

This camp is for teachers from Virginia and other states who have been tasked with teaching cybersecurity curricula. Our camp is for teachers who have some knowledge of computing and cybersecurity but know they have gaps in their knowledge.  You should apply if you are a STEM or non-STEM teacher who wants to learn and teach your students about safe practices and the principles of computer security.

After completing the training camp, participants will be able to:
  • Explain and implement improved cybersecurity practices for self-protection
  • Describe the basics of technology and science behind the use of cybersecurity mechanisms
  • Access the resources available to extend their and their students' knowledge of advanced principles and practices in cybersecurity
  • Network with others in similar teaching roles who endeavor to expand their cybersecurity teaching resources
  • Articulate the various opportunities for careers in cybersecurity
  • Create and access secondary school lesson plans for teaching cybersecurity principles
Note that this is a NON-RESIDENTIAL camp. Housing is not provided. Participants will be expected to commute to camp each day.

Each participant will receive:
  • $400 honorarium after successful completion of camp
  • up to $200 in travel reimbursement, including parking fees and mileage.
  • 3.5 CEUs
