iPads in the Elementary Classroom (i11i)

We are fortunate with the technology access we have in the elementary. Besides a traditional computer lab of 25 computers, we have two mobile laptop carts of 25 MacBooks each. We also have a mobile cart of 25 iPads and each classroom has an iPad as well. There are at least two computers in each classroom (4th and 5th grade have 5 computers in each room).  So, we have close to a 1:2 ratio of computers to students in our elementary.

Learning Target: Participants will walk away with at least one idea to immediately implement in their job, classroom, and/or personal use for an iPad/iPhone.

Guiding Questions:
  • How do you learn about all the great resources that are out there for the iPads?
  • How do you use the device with students for higher levels of thinking - something more than just practicing facts?

How We Set up iPads
Each teacher has their own iTunes account and their classroom iPad is synced to their work computer.
Apple Volume Purchasing Program (VPP) used to purchase paid apps
Mobile cart all set up on one account with one syncing station (dedicated laptop).
Get one iPad set up the way you want it, make a back up, and then restore all the other iPads to the one backup.
We do not use Casper to manage mobile devices. We are still exploring options here.
