Hello middle school students and parents! My name is Lorie Prouty and I am pleased to be working with middle school students again this year. This will be my eighth year teaching at Van Meter. I previously taught in the Des Moines Public Schools for eleven years, and worked with Iowa State student teachers for two years. I am a graduate of Van Meter High School and The University of Iowa. This will explain my loyalty to the Bulldogs and also my obsession with black and gold! My husband and I have three children, two attend school here in Van Meter, and our other son is a University of Northern Iowa Panther! We live on a farm outside of Van Meter and love spending time with people in this community.
Middle School in Van Meter has gone through some exciting changes over the last few years. We have moved our sixth grade classrooms upstairs to become part of the secondary building and are taking part in the 1:1 computer initiative. This has been a terrific learning experience for students and teachers!
This year I will continue to work with teachers as a Middle School Instructional Strategist. I also work with individual and small groups of students on reading skills. Mrs. Stacy Peterson will be teaching language arts and reading this year, while Mrs. Jean Birks will be teaching science and math. Mr. Joel Bartz will also be teaching science, and we have Mrs. Carey teaching math as well. We want to welcome our new social studies teacher Mr. Josh Flaws.
Middle school students will also have the opportunity to be involved in band and chorus, physical education, art, Spanish, and a group of rotating exploratory classes that will give them a small taste of classes available at the high school level.
See you all soon! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at email@example.com or 996-2221
