About Me

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
- William Butler Yeats

My name is Claire Cantrell, and I am graduating from the University of Virginia in December 2013 with a Masters in Teaching, a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, and a minor in Religious Studies. I will be endorsed to teach Elementary Education (PreK-6) and Spanish (K-12).
This website provides an overview of some of my teaching experiences including a reading tutoring placement at the McGuffey Reading Center at the University of Virginia.

I am currently student teaching in a third grade classroom in Albemarle County. When I graduate in December, I hope to get a job as an elementary classroom teacher in Virginia. Please visit my teaching blog to find out more about the experiences as a student teacher in a third grade classroom.

I am passionate about teaching children and supporting their social and emotional growth. My great grandmother said, "Children are the best company." I agree wholeheartedly that it is privilege and a blessing to work with them every day. As a classroom teacher I hope to motivate students to reach their maximum potential by maintaining high expectations for all students and engaging student interest with  a variety of authentic, creative, and lively instructional techniques.
