What is PRP?
Although blood consists primarily of a liquid known as plasma, it also contains small solid components such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.  Platelets are well known for their role in assisting with the clotting of blood, but they also have other properties.  They contain hundreds of proteins, known as growth factors, that play a very large role in the healing of injuries.

PRP is plasma that has a greater concentration of platelets, and therefore growth factors, than normal blood, and laboratory studies have shown that these increased growth factors have the potential to improve healing and regeneration.

How is PRP prepared?
To prepare PRP, first a sample of blood is drawn from a patient.  This sample is spun in a centrifuge at high speed to separate the platelets from the other blood cells.  This separation process takes about 10-15 minutes, and it results in a sample of plasma that is rich in platelets.  Once the PRP is obtained, the sample is then reinjected back into the same patient (autologous transfer) to help with various skin conditions.

Once the PRP is ready, it is either injected into the scalp as a hair loss treatment, or it is used in conjunction with microneedling for enhanced skin rejuvenation.  The results are improved healing of the skin and hair follicles with minimal downtime.
