The Bastion is a place of protection. It was built in 1845 and was mostly used for communication between the fort and incoming ships in the Columbia River. The ships would fire gunpowder at the Bastion. Then, the Bastion would fire a bunch of gunpowder back. This was their way of saying that it’s okay to come to the fort with their goods. It was made of wood, the most plentiful resource in the area. To view the tour on your phone, with a VR viewer, or in full screen on your computer, please click HERE.
