Dr. Barclay worked as a physician at Fort Vancouver from 1840 to 1850. During this time he ran the medical establishment inside the Fort, known today as The Barclay Quarters. The Barclay Quarters were composed of his living quarters, a sitting room, an infirmary, and a office/dispensary. At the Barclay Quarters he would treat the officers of the Hudson's Bay Company (he would make house calls to tend to the women and children). Other people would be treated at a different facility outside the Fort walls.
