This artifact is a soup plate. The plate is made with ceramic, and has a blue pattern in the middle. These soup plates have a deep center, and large rims. They were also very expensive, and large. They were used in formal dining with soups. These could be meaningful to the owner, simply because of its value. Having an expensive soup plate could also promote the idea that the owner is very rich, and important in the community, or the Hudson’s Bay Company. A theme that could be applied to this, is Cultural Expression/Art. The reason for this is because the inside of the plate has artwork. Another theme could be Globalization/Trade because the plate came from the United Kingdom. |
