File - Anthony

This artifact is a metal file from some time between 1829 and 1860 at Fort Vancouver. It is made entirely of iron and has some print on the end of the handle. The file’s shape was a long skinny piece of iron with an indentation to create the handle. It was used for making metal smooth that was rough or had recently been cut. This could be meaningful to the owner because they needed it do their work, especially since the owner was probably a blacksmith. The archaeological theme that this file would be listed under would be Technological Change due to the fact that this file is completely made of iron whereas files today have a plastic handle and the blade is rougher and more durable.
