The Japanese word "sensei" is often translated as "teacher" or "master", but it literally means "one who has gone before". That is how I see myself: as "one who has gone before" my students along the path of learning science, and who can help guide them along that same path. (No, I'm not Japanese, but my family and I find the language and culture fascinating.)
I now teach Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Science & Sustainability to a great group of kids at Vanlue High School. My wife, God bless her, teaches our own three rambunctious kids everything at home.
