Background and Credentials

As a Master's and Certification student at VanderCook College of Music, I am seeking a certification to teach K-12 Music and, additionally, receive a Master's in Music Education. I am a vocalist, percussionist and songwriter with a Bachelor of Music from Millikin University in Commercial Music with an emphasis in voice and a Minor in Theatre.  I aspire to teach band, choir or general music at the secondary level.

Born and raised in central Illinois, I was blessed to have several wonderful music teachers who mentored my various interests. I took piano lessons from a young age, studied voice, played the snare drum and was drum major in the marching band, traveled to Carnegie Hall with a community choir, and was active in school and community theatre.  My undergraduate education focused on voice performance, ethnomusicology, recording studio technique, and songwriting. I took a year after graduating to move to Chile where I taught English as a Second Language to 5-12 grades in a low-income school.

Each year, I look forward to attending the Illinois Music Educators Association annual conference. I plan to complete the MMEd degree in the summer of 2014. You may view my complete resume
