Interfaith and Environment Fellowship-June 15 deadline

posted Apr 21, 2011, 10:04 AM by Katharine Lassiter

Wednesday, June 15 is the new application deadline for the GreenFaith Fellowship Program – GreenFaith’s national interfaith education and training program for religious-environmental leaders.  Materials are available here:

Our new class of Fellows who will join over 70 Jewish, Christian and Muslim Fellows into a national network of religious-environmental leaders.

Free Introductory Webinar

GreenFaith will offer a free webinar to introduce the Program to interested candidates on Thursday, May 12 from 8:00-9:00 pm EST.  Register for it here:

Fellows have given the program high marks.

I can tell you that this is a fantastic program.
LeeAnne Beres, Executive Director of Seattle’s Earth Ministry

Without this program, I would never have taught classes on eco-Judaism or launched an interfaith values based internship through the Office of Sustainability at Princeton.
                           Rabbi Julie Roth, Executive Director,
Center for Jewish Life at Princeton University

The GreenFaith Fellowship Program has helped me recognize and name the connections between my spirituality and my passion for environmentalism. Being a Fellow is a fundamental part of my education as a religious leader.
Rebecca Edwards, seminarian at Virginia Theological Seminary

The Program consists of three three-day retreats focused on religious-environmental education and worship, “green” consumption and facility management, and environmental justice. Fellows participate in monthly webinars and read about religious-environmentalism from a range of perspectives.  Each Fellow writes their own eco-theological statement and carries out a leadership project in their own community.

GreenFaith seeks applications from diverse ethnic and religious communities.  For application materials, click here.

I hope you’ll join us for the May 12 webinar, and pass this e-mail to your contacts who would be interested.

In faith,

Fletcher Harper

HIV Vaccine Volunteers Needed

posted Apr 6, 2011, 11:12 AM by Katharine Lassiter

In the United States HIV disproportionately infects certain groups and populations; however, HIV can infect anyone. Worldwide there are currently over 40 million people infected with HIV. That number is growing. Developing a vaccine is our best hope to control HIV/AIDS. The Vanderbilt HIV Vaccine Program needs healthy, uninfected adults (ages 18-50) from all walks of life to help find a vaccine to prevent HIV infection. There is no risk of HIV infection from the vaccines. Volunteers must be available locally for 12-18 months. Volunteers will be compensated. Call 322-HOPE (322-4673) or email for more information.
You can help fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic. In order to develop a vaccine that will work for everyone, we need help from everyone! ALL RACIAL AND ETHNIC GROUPS ARE ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT OUR PROGRAM. (

Welcome to the New Web Portal

Yep it's new. To start off the academic year we thought we'd try a whole new way of communicating. I hope this site will sort of be the "front door" for student life at VDS. You can find your way into our community from many angles but our desire is to have a recognizable place to get the information you need to get involved.

Each student organization (along with SGA and the Administration) is creating a Google calendar that they maintain but which is viewable thought this site. That way we'll all know what it going on and can plug in where we choose. We also hope to reduce the amount of email students receive by asking that events be promoted here (See the Announcement link & Calendar) and through the new white board outside of the Common Room - along with the regular fliers and bulletin boards.

Feel free to leave comments or suggestions - and subscribe to this feed (link in the upper left) so that you'll know when a new announcement goes up.)

Peace, Eric Burton-Krieger on behalf of SGA 2010-2011
