Unit Study Options

Unit Study (1 credit class) – The goal of the unit study is to provide a school, grade level, or department the opportunity to focus attention on what and how they are teaching in any subject area. By creating a pre- and post-test, a decision is made on what are the most important ideas for the unit of study. This gives a general framework for how each lesson should tie into the big ideas or key developmental understandings that align to current state standards and Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The unit study can be designed using existing curriculum guides. A resource book for the unit study is, The Understanding by Design Guide to Creating High-Quality Units (2011) by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe.

Teachers interested in setting up a unit study course for credit can ask for a sample syllabus.  A Unit Study PD Request form must be completed and approved by the building administrator before being submitted to Susan James/Gary Johnston for approval.
