A note from the principal

Positive things are happening at Sage Valley. We just finished the first semester and every
student in the school participated in an Inter-disciplinary project. These projects centered around
one theme and students learned about that theme in each of their classes. The 6th grade theme was
natural disasters. The 7th grade learned about the bravery of Abby Sunderland, a teen age girl
who tried sailing solo around the world. The 8th grade focused on Ancient Rome. Students went
to each of their classes and discussed the same theme within the content of the class. I asked
students their opinion of the project and each one of them loved it. They enjoyed knowing that
each class had the same theme and it built upon what they just learned in the other classes. My
hat goes off to our teachers and their efforts to put such a powerful experience together for our
kids. Way to go.

As many of you know, Sage Valley has been successful at the State Lego Robotics competitions.
This year is no different. Sage Valley sent 3 teams to Twin Falls for the State Competition. The
all girl team, Smart Cookies, came home with a trophy. The other two teams, Geek Squad and
Lego Hunger made a great showing and represented Sage Valley well. A big thanks goes to
Susan Canon, Leland Sasaki, Rick Nosik and parent volunteers for the time and effort you
devoted to these kids. Thanks for the support.

We just received word that 6 of our students received awards or honorable mention for their
original entries from the Scholastic Arts Writing Awards. K. Inthisane received the Silver Key
award and honorable mention for her work of fiction. M. Herrald, A. Edgar and A. Johnson
received Honorable mention for their entries. P. Ramos received the Silver Key award for his
poetry entry. A Golden Key award went to S. Duarte for her fiction entry. Congratulations to
these 6 students and to Mr. Darlinton.

We look forward to more positive results from the efforts our teachers and students are putting
forth on a daily basis. Thank you for the support you give your students.

Mr. Smith
