  • Week of 10/16 Welcome back! This week we will begin a new book in each of my classes. The students are responsible for completing some of the reading at home. All of the books are located in Google Classroom.   • Week of August 21 This week the 8th graders will work on making connections between people, events, and ideas. They will learn how authors make connections and distinctions using comparisons, analogies, and categories. The 7th graders will work on point of view. They will determine the effectiveness of the point of view of various characters in the text. 8th grade reading tutoring will be held in my classroom every Wednesday morning at 7:30 am. Any student that would like extra reading or writing help is welcome to attend tutoring.

  • Week of August 7th This week in 8th grade, we will work on identifying the central idea of informational text and writing objective summaries. The students will need to work on their informational essays at home this week for homework. We started them last week in class. In 7th grade, the students will take a break from reading standards in order to work on learning the steps of writing an informational essay.   • Week of July 24 We had an amazing first week!  We spent time getting to know each other and the classroom routines and procedures. We began our class novels and even completed our first assignment! In seventh grade, we began the book Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick, while in eighth grade we are reading Posted by John David Anderson. This week we will begin our standards instruction. I am hoping to include some self-directed learning as part of this instruction. In order for this to happen, all students will need to have a pair of head phones (earbuds are fine) every Monday in ELA class. Please email me if this is a problem for your child. I hope to see ...

  • Welcome to ELA! I am so excited to welcome you to my ELA class! Please make sure that you bring the necessary supplies with you each day. In ELA, you will need a composition notebook, pens/pencils, and dry erase markers. This week, we will spend time getting to know each other, learn the rules and procedures of our classroom, and we will choose independent reading books. Independent reading is a large part of ELA, so I will help you learn how to choose a book that will interest you.
