Learning is a constructive activity in which students use what they already know to interpret and make sense out of new information. This means that students develop meaning and understanding; they don't simply receive it from teachers. It also means that students develop misconceptions about concepts and ideas as a natural consequence of trying to make sense of new information. What are some ways to teach that take student learning into account, and promote conceptual change?
