Quadrats were used to measure percent cover of algae and sessile and mobile invertebrates in spring and summer 2008-2011. Sampling was performed at three elevations on the seawall: Upper (approximately +5 to +7’ MLLW, Middle (from approximately +2.5 to +5’ MLLW), and Lower (approximately 0 to +2.5’ MLLW). Three random quadrat locations were chosen at each elevation for a total of nine quadrats per panel. Quadrat corners were permanently marked and the locations and revisited thereafter to provide a time series of fixed plots. On stepped and finned panels, samples were taken from both vertical and sloped substrata at each elevation so that the effect of angled substrata could be compared to flat vertical substrata.
