Position Information

The Director of Religious Education (DRE) is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and administering a holistic, transformative, inclusive, and vibrant Unitarian Universalist religious education program for all ages. Interviews begin in June 2012 and the position begins in Summer 2012 (September ideally.) This is a half-time, exempt position. The DRE will be required to work most Sundays, attend meetings and some church events.


  • Develops, plans and coordinates a religious education (RE) program in collaboration with the Minister and RE Team.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises childcare providers and RE volunteers.
  • Develops and manages the RE budget.
  • Maintains visibility or Provides exposure of the RE program to the congregation and to the public.
  • Develops and administers RE policies and safety standards.
  • Initiates, develops and maintains dialogue with other Hawaii UU fellowships and other religious communities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Minister.

Qualifications/ Skills

  • Knowledge of and commitment to Unitarian Universalism and its values.
  • Experience in recruiting, training and managing volunteers and staff.
  • Computer and internet savvy.
  • Background in education and/or curriculum assessment desirable

Salary Range 

$16,000 to $20,800 annually plus benefits
