The parent meeting for the 8th grade trip was held before MMS Open House on August 22nd and included both 7th & 8th graders

again this year.  If you were unable to attend the meeting and would like a copy of the handouts, contact Miss Stubenhofer.  The

handouts included expectations for the 8th grade students who are going on the trip this year and some information about how

to make the best selling treats for the concession stands!

Some of the 8th graders have already started raising money at our successful track concessions!  Fundraising for this spring’s

trip will continue this year.  Because of the small 8th grade class, the 7th graders will begin fundraising right away so they can

fill in our needed working spots.  We look for continued support by our community (and the visitors).

Sign up for the volleyball and football concession stands began the week of August 22nd.  Sheila Baldwin and Staci Hansen

are in charge of signing up other parents for the volleyball concession stands.  We may need some parents to help take

money at the  football games.   Please let Miss Stubenhofer know if you are willing to help monitor ticket taking.

Remember if you are an 8th grade parent and would like to sponsor on this year’s trip, you need to send a note to Miss Stubenhofer

at school (email is fine) so she can include your name on the list!

The USD 408 District Calendar is available on-line.  Please check daily for calendar updates.  Daily announcements along with
the monthly menu is published on the district web page.  Be sure to check it out!!

The first activity this year was the Back to School swim party. On Friday of the first
week of school students enjoyed an afternoon of swimming at the aquatics center/pool.
This idea originated from many discussions designed to help smooth the transition from
MES to MMS.  It has been apparentthat the first couple of weeks are so important getting
students headed in the right direction.

In this class we have learned a lot about how to use a compass and map, such as, how to find the compass bearing and map bearing.  We also figured out our paces, so we can measure out how many feet we take to go a certain distance.
It all looked hard but Mr. Darrow helped us learn quickly!  At this moment we are competing to see which group can follow a compass course, made by Mr. Darrow, the fastest.  We are also making topographic maps.  They are pretty fun but sort of hard at the same time.  We are having tons of fun in this class.  Mr. Darrow is a lot of fun and he has taught us a lot.  We hope to learn much more and have more fun!!  WE LOVE THIS CLASS!!
