Welcome to Third Grade!

I am very excited to have your student in my classroom this year!

Classroom Communications

This year we will be trying out a new communication tool called remind. This will be a way for us to stay in touch via text messaging or another email route.  I will do my best to keep all upcoming events and any pertinent information posted while not overwhelming anyone with a multitude of messages.

To sign up to receive classroom announcements via text messages text @americus to 81010. You can opt out of messages at anytime by replying, "unsubscribe@americus".

To receive messages via email, send an email to americus@mail.remind.com. To unsubscribe, reply with "unsubscribe" in the subject line. <script src="https://widgets.remind.com/iframe.js?token=4cb8b1c009d80132df2246c34941872e"></script

Daily Communications

We will  send home a plastic folder called a classroom communicator each evening. Please check your student’s book bag for this communicator each evening to receive any notes from the school, notes from me,  homework or graded papers for your student.  Students are rewarded each week for having their daily planners signed each night by a parent or guardian.

Extra-Curricular Activities

If your child is involved in an extracurricular activity please let me know what the schedules are. I really enjoy getting to watch my students participate in the things that are important to them outside of the classroom, and I will make every effort to come and see them at least once a season.

Book orders

About once a month I will offer book orders for anyone who would like to purchase books through Scholastic. There is an online ordering option that will allow you to pay with a debit or credit card as well as the traditional order forms that come home.  If you do choose to place an order with the traditional form please send a check written out to me so I can process our order online and receive it much faster. Book orders are completely optional and I will send home the orders at the end of the day when they arrive.

Snacks

Healthy snacks are always welcome in the room at appropriate times. I do ask that snacks be kept private and that they are taken care of in a quickly and quietly.  I do try to keep graham crackers available for those kids who are just needing a quick snack. (No one learns very well on an empty stomach.)  If you would like to donate to our class cracker supply please let me know

Homework

There will be some homework this year!  Most of the time any homework that your child brings home will be from not using their time wisely in class. I do everything I can to provide adequate time during the day for work, if I do assign homework it will be for a specific reason or project as well to help nurture good study habits in your students.  If you student is struggling to keep up with the work please let me know so that we can adapt things to better suit their needs.

Birthdays

If you would like to bring in treats for your birthday or your half birthday if your birthday falls in the summer. For example my birthday is July 13th my half birthday would be December 13th.  Please send a quick note or email at least a day ahead of time so that I can plan for time at the end of the day to take care of them.

Contact Information

I am always available for homework help in the evenings.  My school email address is baldwind@usd251.org.  I can also be reached through the remind messaging mentioned above.  If I cannot return you call that evening I will at least know that your student needs help first thing in the morning.  I do have young children so please refrain from calling after 9:00 unless it is an emergency.
