Welcome NCHS Families! I look forward to being your student’s guide as we explore the wonders of Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science. I am also the Sophomore class sponsor. I am honored to be a part of the teaching staff here at Norton Community High School and to share in the excitement of learning about science.

Chemistry I - Prerequisite: Algebra I (Geometry would be helpful). 1/2 credit per semester. The purpose of the course is to give the student a basic understanding of chemistry.

Chemistry II - Pre-requisites: Chemistry I and Algebra II or permission of the instructor. 1/2 credit per semester, two semester course. The course is a continuation of Chemistry I and is designed for students planning a career in chemistry, biology, engineering, health care, and medicine. The purpose of the course is to give students an in-depth look at some topics covered lightly in Chemistry I and a study of Organic Chemistry.

Physics - Pre-requisite: Algebra II or permission of instructor. 1/2 credit per semester, a two semester course. The purpose of the course is to give the student an introduction to physics. The student will learn about the metric system, force and motion, heat energy, wave motion, light, and electricity.

Environmental Science - 1/2 credit per semester, a two semester course. Environmental Science studies the relationships between humans and their environment. The course covers many fields of study including population growth, pollution, and conserving natural resources. It is designed to increase student's knowledge of the environment while developing scientific skills.
