Lawrence Brothers Science Camp

VERMILLION, S.D. (SD BRIN) — South Dakota BRIN hosted the 14th annual Lawrence Brothers Science Camp for one week this summer.  From July 12-17, forty-nine middle school students enjoyed many hands-on learning experiences pertaining to this year's theme, "The Science of Sports".   The six camp counselors were undergraduate students from USD while the activity facilitators were volunteer faculty members and staff.  The forty-nine students who attended camp were from fifteen middle schools across South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa.  The campers attended activities and presentations such as:  Prevent & Treat Sports Injuries, Muscles in Motion, Brain Control of Movement & Brain Protection, How High Can You Jump, Fueling for Exercise, and Sport Science.  They also participated in a Lego challenge, rock wall climbing at the Wellness Center and swimming.  To end the week of science fun, the students used various styles of presentation about their experiences to their peers, counselors, and family members at a closing brunch.
