Fine Arts Festival & Book Fair

posted May 11, 2018, 5:15 AM by James Carver   [ updated May 11, 2018, 5:19 AM ]

Unity East
Fine Arts Festival & Book Fair
Tuesday, May 15
     Book Fair: 4:00-8:00pm
     Fine Arts Festival: 6:00-8:00pm.
Pizza, snacks, & drinks: 6:00-7:45pm

Ms. Hanners and East students have been hard at work all year on the artwork that will be displayed during our Fine Arts Festival on Tuesday. I encourage you to attend so that you can see the talent Ms. Hanners develops in our students! Many of our students will also be sharing their musical talents in performances throughout the evening.

PTO will have a Book Fair set up in the library before and during the Fine Arts Festival. This book fair is a buy-one-get-one event, so it can be easy to equip your child with fun and engaging books to enjoy during the summer months. Reading over the summer is highly encouraged and important for students to maintain the progress they make during the school year!

The East teachers have summer reading and math resources available to take home for over the summer. There is a fun and rewarding incentive for students to complete the activities and turn in their packet next school year.

Pizza, snacks, and drinks will be served starting at 6:00pm. We hope your family can join us for a fun and eventful night!

Spring Book Fair & All for Books Coin Drive

posted May 4, 2018, 7:16 AM by James Carver   [ updated May 18, 2018, 7:03 AM ]

UPDATE:  Thanks to their generosity and competitive spirit, the students at Unity East raised over $440 for the All For Books Cardinals vs. Cubs coin drive!

Although the Cubs won the drive, Unity East was the real winner. Since the spring book fair is a BOGO free, we were able to double that dollar amount and provide $68 in books for each classroom teacher and our Reading Specialist!

In addition, through the All For Books program, Scholastic matches our contribution with a donation to charities that distribute books to children in need.

You can find more information at: http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/content/programs/allforbooks/about-all-books

Finally, thank you to everyone who visited the book fair and made purchases toward summer reading!

Unity East PTO

Unity East students can bring in coins or bills to donate to one of the two collection jars in the library, Cubs or Cardinals.  Amounts raised will be tallied and announced on Friday, May 11th and again on Tuesday, May 15th, the day of the book fair.

All money raised through the coin drive will help teachers purchase books for classroom libraries and Scholastic will also match donations through their All For Books program.  All For Books donates books to children in need through organizations such as the Kids In Need Foundation, Reader to Reader, Inc., and the National Center for Families Learning.

We hope to see you at the BOGO free book fair!!  Tuesday, May 15th, 4:00-8:00 pm in the Unity East Library (in coordination with the Unity East Fine Arts Festival)

As a fun, added incentive, many teachers are rooting for their favorite team during the coin drive. Whichever team raises the most coinage gets bragging rights, while teachers whose team comes in second get to wear the winning team's gear for a day. Huzzah!

FFA Crayon Project

posted Apr 30, 2018, 7:00 AM by James Carver

Dear Parents:Image result for ffa logo

Living to serve, the final line of the FFA motto embodies what Illinois FFA strives to achieve. Every year during the State FFA Convention, Illinois organizes a service project opportunity for our members to participate in.

This year, they have a unique opportunity to partner with an amazing organization called the Crayon Initiative. The Crayon Initiative collects used and unwanted crayons then melts them down and remanufactures them, reducing environmental waste.

Donated crayons that are turned into new crayons are then donated to Children Hospitals to allow children going through tough times an outlet for creative expression. Illinois FFA is excited to be a part of such an amazing opportunity to affect the lives of children across the United States.

As a State, Illinois FFA has set a goal to collect over 2,000 pounds of crayons and Unity East can help them reach their goal.

Parents please bring all unused crayons from home and drop them off at Unity East to Mrs. Walden in the library. I will then deliver the crayons to the Unity FFA who will take them to the State FFA Convention in June.

I will be collecting crayons until May 18th.

Thank you, Mrs. Walden

Unit 7 Elementary Track Meet

posted Apr 19, 2018, 11:54 AM by James Carver

Field, Running, Track,

Once again it is time to plan the Unit 7 Elementary Track Meet.  The turnout in past years has been tremendous, and we hope for an even better turnout this year!  We have had to schedule the Elementary Track Meet on a Wednesday afternoon due to conflicts with other end-of-the-year activities.

The meet will be held at Unity High School on the all-weather track.  Parents are responsible for transporting their student-athletes to the meet.  Please try to have your student-athlete at the high school by 3:15, as we hope to have the meet completed by 6:00 pm.

Each student-athlete is eligible to enter a total of any three (3) events.  See attached entry form to enter your student-athlete in events.  We are asking that you please enclose a non-refundable donation of $5.00 per child when you submit your child’s entry.  This donation will be used to help buy ribbons with the remainder going to the Unity High School Track Programs.  If you feel you aren’t able to donate at this time, that is okay.  Your child will still be able to participate in the Track Meet.  We would like to see every child participate!

If inclement weather prevents the event from happening, we will not be able to reschedule.

Please return your entry along with your donation to your school by Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

We hope to have a great turnout for the Elementary Track Meet!!

Thank you in advance for your donation and support!  See you at the meet!

Sunday, March 4th
5-7pm

Unity West & East PTOs have joined together to rent Skateland for two hours on Sunday March 4th from 5 to 7pm. There is no school the following Monday due to Pulaski Day.

Both PTOs have paid for the admission for the West and East students and their families. Skate rental is $3 per person.

For the skate rental or laser tag please bring CASH! The using of the credit card machine slows down the skate rental line and will shorten the time you and others have to skate.

Donations of non-perishable foods will be doanted to the Rocket Pack program and The Giving Place.
Here are the links to both programs if you want to know more about them or what you can donate.

Laser Tag is $5 per person per game. The snack bar will be open and Skateland is running a special on a 16" one topping pizza and 2 liter for $18.50.
