About Kathryn

Professor of Environmental Writing and Editor-in-Chief of Hawk & Handsaw: The Journal of Creative Sustainability, Kathryn Miles joined the Unity faculty in 2001.  Kathryn teaches courses in Creative Nonfiction, Environmental Writing, New Media, and Writing for Publication.  She is the author of ALL STANDING: THE REMARKABLE STORY OF THE JEANIE JOHNSTON,  THE LEGENDARY FAMINE SHIP and ADVENTURES WITH ARI.  Her essays and articles have appeared in dozens of publications including BEST AMERICAN ESSAYS, BETWEEN SONG AND STORY, ECOTONE, HISTORY, and OUTSIDE MAGAZINE.  An avid sailor, surfer, and organic gardener, Kathryn lives with her partner and their dog, Ari, in Belfast, Maine.
