Research interests

My research activity is mainly devoted to the theoretical investigation of electronic and optical properties of group IV semiconductor nanostructures for photonics applications and has led to important contributes toward the development of CMOS compatible optical amplifiers based on the Silicon/Germanium material system. Numerical studies are carried out in close collaboration with different experimental groups in Europe. Topics includes: valence and conduction intersubband transitions in Silicon/Germanium multilayer heterostructures, optical amplification in quantum wells and quantum cascade structures, optically excited spin polarization in confined systems, band engineering via lattice deformations, optical emission in strained SiGeSn alloys, ...
