P. Spagnolo is the coordinator for INFN-PISA of the Scientific Advisory and Financial Board of the accelerators division (CSN1).
He is member of the INFN Review Board of referees for the LHCb Experiment and for the LHC Computing and DataGrid.
Paolo has many years of expertise in Particle Physics and detector development, obtained at CERN within the ALEPH and the CMS collaborations. After the Higgs discovery, to address the issue of the Physics beyond the Standard Model, he joined the Exotica group of CMS.
Besides, to extend the search of light Dark Matter beyond the Colliders, he proposed STAX: a new experimental concept to search for Axions in laboratory with microwaves high power source, through the Primakov effect. The goal is to improve dramatically the present reach of sensitivity in Axion Searches. For this purpose, he initiated an R&D on microwaves single photon sensors, based on superconducting ultra-cold nano-wires, in collaboration with the NEST Labs in Pisa.
