I have worked in celestial mechanics and space geodesy before moving to fundamental physics in space. I am principal investigator of the “Galileo Galilei” (GG) satellite experiment to test the Weak Equivalence Principle (WEP) to 1e-17, a 4 orders of magnitude improvement over current results. Evidence of WEP violation would either require a modification of General Relativity or indicate the existence of a new long range, composition dependent, force of nature. Either would imply a revolution in physics. GG is a candidate for the next medium size mission of ESA and at the end of January 2017 has passed the first selection. The Microscope satellite is in orbit with the goal of testing WEP to 1e-15. GG can verify its results with 100 times better precision.
