Research interests
New processing and computing methods are needed to tackle the increasing gap between data growth and processing power. Our FTK project developed image processing technology that emulates the architecture of the brain, which we then tested at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC, the world’s most powerful particle accelerator) at CERN, in order to solve a specific Big Data problem. Interesting subatomic processes generated by LHC collisions are rare and lie hidden within an extremely large amount of irrelevant events. FTK improves substantially the real time event selection from this ‘background noise’ and has other important applications (e.g. medical imaging, security…)
