Presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
Necessary Targets is set in the aftermath of the war in Bosnia, which occurred in the early 1990s. In the play, two American women--a therapist and a writer--visit Bosnia to help women survivors cope with the trauma of sexual violence and genocide. The play raises questions about the ethics of telling and documenting stories about such trauma.
In Spring 2014, the UNI Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education (CHGE) will present two staged readings of Necessary Targets. The readings will be directed by Jade Horning, a graduate student in Communication Studies. Performances are scheduled for April 1 (at the UNI Interpreters Theatre) and April 8 (at the Grout Museum in Waterloo).
