Created to connect me as a school counselor in-training to my school and community, this website serves as a source of information about my ideal school counseling program and a mode of communication between myself and parents. Please take a moment to look through the pages dedicated to providing information and resources to both parents and administrators. I would like to draw your attention to the About Me section below, the Letter to Parents on the "For Parents" page, and posts located on the "Blog" page. If you have questions or would like additional information, my contact information is located in the column to the right.

About Me

I am currently a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) pursuing a Master's of Science/Educational Specialist Degree in Counseling with a concentration in School Settings. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from High Point University in 2018 with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and a minor in Human Relations. While working toward my undergraduate degree, I worked in the Office of Career and Professional Development at High Point University as a Peer Career Advisor. This position allowed me to gain skills in resume and cover letter development, career planning, job searches, and mentorship. These skills have proved useful in my previous position as the Graduate Assistant for Student Success Initiatives in the Office of the Provost at UNCG. My undergraduate experience included practicum hours at Union Hill Elementary School and Ragsdale High School. During my graduate experience, I have completed practicum hours at Fairview Elementary School and the Doris Henderson Newcomers School. These experiences have introduced me to a variety of schools, school counseling programs, and teaching styles that I look forward to synthesizing into my own school counseling program.

Belief Statement
I, Katie James, intend to live each day as though I have the power to make the difference for others. I will strive to be an advocate for members of minoratized populations and support all students through my profession of school counseling. I intend to be a positive force in the world and make every effort to help people feel safe, accepted, and worthy just as I desire to be safe, accepted, and worthy. I will endeavor to use my knowledge and skills to serve and inspire children, families, schools, and communities.

The icons above represent some of the aspects of school counseling that I value most. First is compassion and service illustrated by the heart in hand icon. Second is the book icon which indicates the importance of psycho-education and educational leadership. Third, the blue icon represents the importance of data, evidence-based interventions, and accountability. Lastly is growth, illustrated by the green tree icon. I believe that with compassion-based, service-based and data driven educational leadership, growth at the student, school, district, and professional levels is possible.
