EARLY deadline for Fall Internship Applications are due

Overview

The Internship Program provides an opportunity to obtain a supervised professional experience for the Child, Youth, & Family Development concentration in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. Students are required to complete six semester hours (240 contact hours) of internship to meet the HDF major requirements. The internship course, HDF 499: Supervised Professional Experience, is offered for either 3 or 6 semester hours.

The internship course is designed to help students connect their academic knowledge to real life experience, to obtain professional experience in a field that relates to Human Development and Family Studies, and to develop professional relationships. Additionally, the internship will provide a way for students to test the waters about their field of interest.

HDF 477: Professional Development in HDFS must be taken prior to enrolling in the internship course. This course is designed to help students develop a successful internship experience and professional ways to work in this setting. Students also have the opportunity to develop professional skills beyond their internship. As the speaking intensive course for the Child, Youth, & Family Development concentration, students will further develop their interpersonal skills by completing oral assignments.

As a capstone experience, you must meet the following prerequisites prior to enrolling in HDF 499:

  • Formally admitted into the HDF program
  • Completion of HDF 477: Professional Development in HDFS
  • Obtained at least a 2.5 overall GPA
  • Approval from the HDF Internship Director

I hope that you are looking forward to your internship experience. As you go through your program, you may have many questions about the internship process. Please refer to the links on the left for information and please contact Dr. Bulls, Internship Director for HDF.
