C.A. Ramos-Paja was born in 1978. He received the Electronics Engineering degree in 2003 from the Universidad del Valle (Colombia) and the Master degree in Automatic Control in 2005 from the same university. In 2009 he received the Ph.D. degree on Electronics, Automatic and Communications Engineering from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain), he obtaining the maximum degree Suma Cum Laude and the Extraordinary PhD Award from the same university.
In 2009 he joint the Departamento de Energia Electrica y Automatica (DEEA) of the Facultad de Minas in the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Medellin - Colombia). In 2012 he becomes Associate Professor of the same university, receiving the Meritorious Research Award from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 2014, and since 2018 he is Full Professor (Profesor Titular) of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Moreover, in June of 2014 he becomes IEEE Senior Member due to his contributions in the fields of renewable energy and power electronics. Finally, professor Ramos-Paja obtained the category of Senior Researcher in the COLCIENCIAS evaluation of 2017.
Professor Ramos-Paja is an active researched in the Automatic Group of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (GAUNAL), in which he works developing new solutions for harvesting energy from renewable sources, improving the efficiency of power electronics and new microgrids control systems. In those fields professor Ramos-Paja has more than 100 research papers indexed in SCOPUS, from which the papers “Document Grid-connected photovoltaic generation plants: Components and operation”, “Minimum fuel consumption strategy for PEM fuel cells”, “A fast current-based MPPT technique employing sliding mode control”, “Modeling of photovoltaic fields in mismatched conditions for energy yield evaluations”, “Perturb and Observe MPPT algorithm with a current controller based on the sliding mode” and “A PEM fuel-cell model featuring oxygen-excess-ratio estimation and power-electronics interaction” have more than 50 citations each. Moreover, professor Ramos-Paja co-authored the book “Photovoltaic Sources Modeling”, which was published by Wiley – IEEE in March of 2017.
Finally, the applicability and usefulness of the solutions developed by Professor Ramos-Paja were put into evidence in the Patent “Metodo e dispositivo per la massimizzazione della potenza elettrica prodotta da un generatore, in particolare un generatore basato su una fonte energetica rinnovabile”, acquired by Bitron S.P.A in 2010.
