CALL FOR PAPERS!

Deadline for Receipt of Manuscripts:  September 18, 2017

Manuscripts are now being accepted for the next issue of Sentience! This is a great opportunity to have your work showcased in a peer-reviewed journal! Submit a paper based on research conducted in undergraduate courses such as Research Methods or Major Project, honors theses, or directed or independent research.

Submission Guidelines:
  • The first author must be an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota. There may be additional authors consisting of undergraduate/graduate students or faculty/staff, but the undergraduate first author must be the primary investigator on the project and the primary author of the manuscript.
  • Your paper must describe a complete research project involving the collection and analysis of original data. Literature reviews and research proposals will not be considered.
  • Papers must be in APA format.
  • Papers must be a total length of 25 pages or less (including title page, abstract, references, tables, figures, and appendices).
  • If your paper was written to fulfill a class requirement, you must have received a grade of at least B+ on the paper.
  • Seniors have up to one year following graduation to submit a manuscript. The work on which the manuscript is based must have been completed when the author was an undergraduate.
  • Papers must be polished, final products that reflect reasonable proofreading and care in their preparation.
*SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR PSY 3001W (RESEARCH METHODS) PAPERS:

If your manuscript was prepared for the Research Methods course (PSY 3001W), it describes an experiment that you designed and conducted with fellow students.  Therefore, it is appropriate to list your collaborators as coauthors on your paper.  However, you must receive approval from each of your collaborators before you include them as coauthors.  (You may simply obtain their verbal consent either verbally or via email.)  Do not include coauthors who have not explicitly given you permission to do so.  You do not have to list all of your coauthors on your initial submission; you may add authors later in the review process, prior to publication.  All authors must submit an Author Agreement before your paper can be published.  (See the Two Steps to Submit a Manuscript below.)

Review Process:

As is typical of most refereed scientific journals, submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by the Editorial Board. A decision will be made to accept the manuscript as is, reconsider the manuscript after revision, or reject the manuscript. If revisions are necessary, the first author will be responsible for revising the manuscript and resubmitting it by the given deadline.

Follow these Two Steps to Submit a Manuscript:

(1) EMAIL one copy of your paper and the completed Application Form (see below) to sentience@umn.edu with "Submission:" and your name in the subject line (e.g., Submission: Bill Jones). You will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of your submission.
(2) EACH AUTHOR listed on your paper must complete EITHER an electronic version OR print version of the Author Agreement Form (see below). Download one of the two documents below and follow the instructions in the document.
Electronic version: Email the completed form to sentience@umn.edu.
Print version: Hand-deliver the completed form to Mark Stellmack, S105 Elliott Hall on the Twin Cities campus, or mail it to:
